Can’t you just visualize these designs down the center of a long bank of tables for a winter wedding or holiday dinner party? One horizontal design can multiply into as many as you need. Slender in width, they are designed to be in proportion to narrow tables so a placesetting can be placed on either side. In this example the containers are two green plastic rectangular ones filled with wet floral foam placed end to end. Fresh plant materials include needle-leaved Cryptomeria and variegated pittosporum. The Lotus pods are dried. The pine cones with iridescent flocking were purchased. Pillar candles add another dimension to the colors, textures, and shapes besides flickering light. An armature of dead branches picked up in the yard was laid over all. The Lotus pods and pine cones were wired to florist picks to be secure in the foam. This is a great example of what I term, “the real, the fake and the dead,” one of my favorite kinds of floral designs for your home. Not every component in a design has to be fresh or fake or dried. Combine them and see how the textures just sing.
